The 2nd Floor Gallery in Mechanicsburg, specializing in investment art and emerging artists, will be under new ownership as of Sept. 1.

Current owner Jeffrey van Boskirk sold his gallery of 13 years to local entrepreneur Lawrence Knorr.

Knorr, who is affiliated with the gallery as an artist and owned a gallery a five years ago, was approached by van Boskirk to acquire the 5,000-square-foot location and about 500 pieces of art.

Knorr is a photographer, publisher and a professor of economics. His photography is on display at the 2ndFloor Gallery already, and as the owner of Sunbury Press he plans to use his publishing company to document future exhibitions he has planned.

“I want to give it a fresh start,” Knorr said. “Expand its reach and improve the quality of the experience when you come in.”

The gallery currently includes two-dimensional paintings, pastels, photography, pottery, jewelry and a few sculptures.

He plans to expand its reach to include more national and international artists, feature monthly artists and host themed exhibitions, similar to what he did at his previous gallery. He used to organize the Susquehanna International Fine Art Competition that he hopes to bring back.

He and his business partner, Ashley Walkowiak, have plans to make cosmetic improvements to the building, which they will do right away while remaining open.

The hours will be extended to keep the gallery open weekdays and as long as possible on the weekends, including Sunday.

An artist-only meeting held recently showed Knorr he has plenty of people behind him who are ready to get excited about the project.

“The enthusiasm is amazing,” Knorr said.
